Shab-e-Meraj (Isra and Mi’raj) Complete Story

1. Introduction

Shab-e-Meraj is the miraculous night journey of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). It took place on the night of 27th Rajab.

In this miracle, Allah Almighty took the Prophet (PBUH) from:
Masjid al-Haram (Makkah) to Masjid al-Aqsa (Bait ul Muqaddas) Isra and then from there to the heavens and beyond — Mi’raj.

2. The Beginning of the Journey

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was resting near the Kaaba when:
Angel Jibreel (AS) came, woke him gently, and informed him that Allah had invited him on a special journey.

3. The Heavenly Mount: Al-Buraq

Jibreel (AS) brought a special white heavenly animal named Buraq.

Its speed was extremely fast—each step reached the farthest point it could see.

The Prophet (AS) mounted Buraq and began the blessed journey

from Makkah to Bait ul Muqaddas.

 

4. The First Phase – Isra (Makkah → Masjid al-Aqsa)

During this night travel:
The Prophet (PBUH) was shown many signs of Allah. He passed by important places and prophets’ locations.

Upon reaching Masjid al-Aqsa:
All the Prophets (peace be upon them) gathered by the command of Allah. Prophet Muhammad ﷺ led them all in prayer. This showed that he is the Leader of all Prophets.

5. The Second Phase – Miraj (Heavenly Ascension)

After leading the prayer, the Prophet (PBUH) was taken up towards the heavens. At Each Heaven, He Met a Prophet
First Heaven – Hazrat Prophet Adam (AS)
Second Heaven – Hazrat Prophet Isa (AS) and Hazrat Prophet Yahya (AS)
Third Heaven – Hazrat Prophet Yusuf (AS)
Fourth Heaven – Hazrat Prophet Idris (AS)
Fifth Heaven – Hazrat Prophet Harun (AS)
Sixth Heaven – Hazrat Prophet Musa (AS)
Seventh Heaven – Hazrat Prophet Ibrahim (AS)
All welcomed him with love and honor.

6. Sidrat-ul-Muntaha (The Lote Tree of the Furthest Boundary)

Beyond the seventh heaven is a divine place called Sidrat-ul-Muntaha, the last point to which angels can reach.

There the Prophet (PBUH) saw:
amazing creations of Allah, beauty beyond imagination and great signs of the unseen world.

7. The Divine Meeting

After Sidrat-ul-Muntaha, Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was taken further a place where no one

except him has ever reached. He came very close to Allah in a manner suitable to His Majesty. This was the greatest honor ever given to any creation.

8. The Gift of Salah (Five Daily Prayers)

During this meeting, Allah gave the Prophet (PBUH):
50 prayers as a gift for the Ummah. On his return, Prophet Musa (AS) advised him to ask for reduction:
The Prophet (PBUH) returned several times asking for ease. Finally, Allah made them 5 daily prayers, but with the reward of 50 prayers.

9. The Journey Through Paradise and Hell

Allah allowed the Prophet (PBUH) to see:
Jannah (Paradise) — its gardens, rivers, palaces, and blessings.
Jahannam (Hell) — its punishments and conditions.
This was to warn the believers and guide them.

10. Return to Makkah

After completing the heavenly journey:
The Prophet (PBUH) returned to Masjid al-Aqsa,
mounted Buraq again,
and reached Makkah before the night ended.
Though the journey was extremely long,
it happened within a single night—a miracle of Allah.

11. Reaction of the People

When Prophet (PBUH) told the people:
The believers accepted it immediately. Hazrat Abu Bakr (RA) said: “If Muhammad (PBUH) said it, then it is true.” He was given the title As-Siddiq (The Truthful Believer). The disbelievers mocked, but Allah confirmed the truth.

12. Lessons from Shab-e-Meraj

Allah honors His chosen Prophet (PBUH).
Prayer (Salah) is the gift of Miraj.
Life after death is real.
Every believer must stay strong in faith.
Allah can do anything—nothing is impossible for Him.
